What moves a generator price
Size
The biggest lever. Air-cooled units cover most homes; once you need more than about 26 kW it's a liquid-cooled engine, and the price steps up with it.
Distance to the panel
Quotes assume a standard run from the generator to your electrical service. A longer run means more wire and conduit, and bigger generators need heavier wire.
Fuel
Natural gas needs a meter that can supply the generator at full load. Propane needs a tank sized for how long you want to run. Either way, the gas piping is part of the job.
Your electrical service
Most homes take a generator as-is. An older or undersized panel may need an upgrade first — we'll tell you at the visit, not after.
